Tom & Jeff Heinen
Tom and Jeff Heinen have operated as Co-Presidents of Heinen’s since 1994. Heinen’s is a third generation company that was founded by Joe Heinen in 1929. Joe Heinen started the business by operating a butcher shop in Shaker Heights and then he moved across the street and opened Cleveland’s first Supermarket in 1933.
Tom graduated from Bucknell University and Jeff graduated from Stanford University and then both entered the business in 1978 and assumed many different responsibilities as their careers progressed. They have perpetuated the original vision of their grandfather which was to be committed to high quality foods through strenuous sourcing practices and best in class customer service. Most importantly, Tom and Jeff have perpetuated the commitment to their 3500 associates by creating an environment where all associates love working with Heinen’s.
Today, Jeff’s son Jake in the business and is currently in the company management training program. Tom’s two daughters Kimberly and Kelsey are not in the business yet but have both expressed interest in joining the company in the future.
Jeff currently serves on the Boards of Ursuline College, University School, and the Countryside Conservancy. Jeff also served on the board of the Cleveland Food Bank for 27 years and held the position of President for many years. Tom currently serves on the board of the Cleveland Boys and Girls Club and previously served on the board of The American Heart Association.
